KAZAKHSTAN

1. MONGOL
(co-production with Germany, Russia, Mongolia)

Director: Sergei Bodrov
Year: 2007
Awards/Recognition: Nika Awards Best Film
Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film Nominee

Summary: The film depicts the legendary story of the Asian historical figure Genghis Khan from the time he was enslaved as a child up to time he became the greatest conqueror of the world.
Ratings/Comments: Though I love the focus of the film showing Genghis Khan in his most human moments especially all the things he does to follow his wife, and even his spiritual encounters with his Gods, and though I  find the battle scenes magnificent and spectacular, I wish to see more greatness of him in ruling a huge empire. Over-all I find the film an effort to exalt Genghis Khan as a great person more than a great ruler.
9.3/10
